I run Hunts on my own.

The waitlist

If you join, I store your email address, the date, and a one-way hash of your IP address. The hash stops one person flooding the list. It cannot be turned back into an address and I use it for nothing else. I keep your email until you ask me to remove it.

If you have an account

An account holds your email and whatever you put in your profile. Hunts is invite-only.

What Hunts records while you use it

Hunts orders your feed from what you do in it, so it records what you do:

  • which listings it showed you, in what position, and what the ranking scored them
  • which ones you stopped on, and for how long
  • which you opened, and the photos you looked through
  • which you liked, saved or dismissed, and any reason you gave
  • which filters you used
  • when you click through to a marketplace: which site, and the price
  • a session id, an id stored in your browser, your app version, screen width and time zone offset

The landing page

Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits to this site. It sets no cookies and does not follow you between sites. It is the only third-party request on the page. I see page views, referrers and countries.

What I do not collect

No name, address or payment details. No advertising or tracking cookies. No ad networks. I do not sell your data and I do not share it with anyone for their own purposes.

Who else handles it

  • Supabase - the database and sign-in, hosted in the United States
  • Cloudflare - serves this site and counts visits
  • Apple iCloud Mail - sends the waitlist and invite emails
  • A computer I run in Los Angeles, which does the searching

How long I keep it

  • 24 months, then deleted automatically
  • The record of which listings were shown to you: kept indefinitely. It is what lets me tell whether the ranking is getting better or worse
  • Your waitlist email until you ask me to remove it

Your choices

Email [email protected] and I will tell you what I hold, remove you from the waitlist, or delete your account.

Deleting an account does not remove the records of what was shown to that account and what was done with it. Those are kept on the schedule above.
